I designed a comprehensive report featuring data visualizations that reflected 2022 U.S. labor market projections in the cell and immunotherapy sector, specifically focusing on the technician workforce.
This project was a collaborative effort with Director John Carrese from the Bay Region Center of Excellence for Labor Market Research and Professor Guy Hamilton, currently the Director of the Center for Biotechnology Innovation and Training at the University of Washington Bothell.
The report, totaling 179 pages, is available for download through InnovATEBIO, the National Biotechnology Education Center at the following link, https://innovatebio.org/publication/labor-market-analysis-cell-and-immunotherapy-technician-workforce.
The challenge was to develop a central design motif that complemented the precise data and in-depth analysis. A depiction of an unraveled DNA strand transforming into abstract lines–inspired by immunotherapy practices–creates a cohesive visual theme throughout the report.
I focused on creating a light airy feel through thoughtful choices in color, sanserif fonts, a simple layout, and organic illustrated shapes in data visualizations. My thought process with this approach was to bring harmony and balance to the technical content.
This project was funded by the National Science Foundation.
